In her debut piece, photographer Rashi Arora takes us aboard the Vivek Express—the longest train journey in India. Rashi details and documents the conditions and the sensations on her five-day journey across the continent.
Day One: Departures
On the first day of the Vivek Express, Rashi arrives in the dark at Dibrugarh Station in the north. Her she begins her journey south to Kanyakumari.
Day Two: The Stretch to Durgapur
Aboard the Vivek, there is as much commotion outside as there is within the cabins. Rashi shares some observations from different platforms just outside her window.
Day Three: Conditions on the Vivek
With so many people crammed into one place, conditions can be grim aboard the Vivek, but passengers make due with the discomfort and life continues forward.
Days Four and Five: The Final Stretch
With brief reflections of the conditions on the last two days of the journey, Rashi decides to embark on the Vivek for a second time to enjoy the sights and culture Southern India.
